February 1987 thru October 1990 / Owner - Eagles Nest BBS Systems

  1. BBS's were used before the Internet. A BBS (Electronic Bulletin Board System) is a computer program that allows a user with a computer to call into the BBS over normal telephone lines and access the host computer (or computers) running the BBS. Once a user has accessed a BBS he may read or leave messages to other people, transfer computer programs to his computer via the telephone line, play games or many other things that may be available on the BBS.
  2. During the time that the Eagles Nest was in operation, the Eagles Nest was the largest BBS in Wichita, Ks and one of the largest BBS's in the United States, with a file list of over 16,000 files and programs available for download.
  3. The magazine PC World's columnist John C. Dyvork listed the Eagles Nest as one of the top 10 BBS's.
  4. Some other features included; NorthAmeriNet Kansas Regional Hub, PennyPower Shopping News Ad Listings, Channel 12 Cityline Listings, and Games Playable On‑line.
  5. We were the Kansas Regional Hub for NorthAmeriNet (NA-NET). NA-NET was a message network that is made up of other message networks.  This served to bring together the many different message networks under on main network allowing a user a vast source of information channels (a precursor to the Internet World Wide Web).
  6. The message base networks that were available on the Eagles Nest were; Canada Remote Systems LTD, Intelec and Hyperlink. These message bases encompassed most of Canada, the United States, some European countries and Australia.
  7. Each message base was classified by a particular subject such as; Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Opinion, Science, Space,
Programming, Political, Desktop Publishing, Buy & Sell and many more. The Eagles Nest carried over 160 such conferences.
  8. We had a agreement with PennyPower to display their ads electronically, made possible by KWIKTEXT, a software program developed and written by me. KWIKTEXT allowed a caller to not only read the ads while on-line, but also allowed the caller to search the ad listing for a particular item and read only the ads that contained the callers search string. This program would search from start to end of the ad listing for any item in only a couple of seconds.
  9. The Channel 12 Cityline listing was also displayed electronically by KWIKTEXT and contained all category listings and numbers for Channel 12 Cityline.
  10. The Eagles Nest was comprised of (9) computers running on a Novell network at the main location with (2) voice and (5) data lines. Our Eagles Nest West location was provided as a Public BBS and had (1) data line.
